Under this protected indication, red, white and rosé wines are produced in 317 towns in the provinces of Ávila, Burgos, León, Palencia, Salamanca, Segovia, Soria, Valladolid and Zamora.
A continental Mediterranean climate with little rainfall, together with the diversity of soils are the most notable characteristics of the region, which broadly coincides with the Duero basin or northern sub-plateau , together with the mountainous perimeter that surrounds it. 2
This figure includes vineyards within the Castilian-Leonese designations of origin, in Vino de la Tierra mentions, or producers with the right to use the geographical mention.
However, wines produced in Castilla y León but which already have their own designation of origin are not included in the Wines of the Land of Castilla y León. For example, DO Bierzo , DO Tierras de León , DO Toro , DO Cigales , DO Ribera del Duero , etc.
